Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1970, Shintaro Miyake is holding “The cards in the Air!“, a wonderful solo show at the A/D GALLERY (Roppongi Hills).
This series of portraits are drawn in black and color pencil and they are simply beautiful. Full of details most of them come on a small-scale (except for a mural the artist is live drawing at the gallery) so you need to lean forward to appreciate his work.
Most of his characters have elliptical heads, thin long arms and legs and gaping eyes, revealing a rather child-like and playful way of how he sees the world. He is represented by Tomio Koyama Gallery in Tokyo.

I’d like to thank A/D Gallery who kindly let me shoot this exhibition, ありがとうございます!
