Carmina Campus: when Fashion Promotes Change 「カルミナ・カンプスの世界」

CARMINA CAMPUS is the brainchild of Italian designer Ilaria Venturini Fendi. For years, Ilaria has been working in the family firm as Accessories Creative Director of the Fendissime line and Shoe Designer of the Fendi line. Some years ago she decided to leave the company and become an organic farmer following her ideas about the need to personally engage in defense of the environment and of a fairer social development.

She became a fervent supporter of a more sustainable way of life and this gave way to the creation of her own brand “Carmina Campus”.

The “Made in Africa” line is just one of the many Carmina Campus collections that are made in Italy with reused and repurposed materials like canvas from safari tents and cotton printed traditional fabrics.

The mantra NOT CHARITY, JUST WORK printed on some of the bags, synthesizes the project’s philosophy of promoting development through the creation of job opportunities and the possibility for the workers to become self-sufficient entrepreneurs.

Mostly one-of-a-kind pieces, they are manufactured with high-end Italian craftsmen and sold world-wide.

The “Carmina Campus” 2014 S/S Made in Africa collection was presented at Dover Street Market Ginza and Takashimaya Department Stores.

I’d like to thank Carmina Campus Press Office Japan for their generous support for this post.
