Art exhibitions, music, performances and installations were centered on Roppongi’s museums (Mori Art Museum, National Art Center Tokyo) and other spaces (Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown and Roppongi Crossing).
This year’s Artistic Director was Hibino Katsuhiko and the theme was “Move Your Body!” which focused on the “physical nature of art.” Unfortunately, I was in Kyoto on Saturday but was able to check out some exhibitions and see a few events on Sunday afternoon.
Photo on the right: “The Body in Connection Project” (three parts installation) by Nishio Yoshinari People’s House: Skirt (Roppongi Hills Arena) the fabric from old clothing collected around Roppongi was turned into a patchwork to create an installation that looked like a huge skirt, a symbol for the body.
I liked this cool trailer parked inside Roppongi Hills. This was Airbnb (エアービーアンドビー) a community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world. They were founded in 2008 in San Francisco, California and they are now in Tokyo.
“Ping Pong Go Round” A donut-shaped ping-pong table by artist Lee Wen. Everyone was invited to play! (Tokyo Midtown)
“The Body in Connection Project” by Nishio Yoshinari Buttons/Rain (National Art Centre Tokyo). Buttons were collected from old clothing from around Roppongi and other places and strung together with fishing line to look like falling rain.
“Like A Bird” mandala under water by Kosei Komatsu in the Mori Garden, Roppongi Hills.
“The Body in Connection Project” by Nishio Yoshinari Floral Prints/Flower (Tokyo Midtown) Floral prints from old clothing collected around Roppongi were joined to form the shape of a giant flower.
ˆ ˆProbably one of my favorite installations by Nakazato Yousuke.
Besides all the exhibitions and events happening in Tokyo that night, there was another can’t-miss show going on: the street style parade. Here are my favorite looks!
A big thank you to the people who posed for my blog…ありがとうございます!
