Partly inspired on Sir John Tenniel (1820-1914), the British artist who illustrated Lewis Carroll’s “Alice Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” and partly inspired on her pet cat, every illustration is simply mesmerizing and an invitation into her fantasy world.
Most of her artworks are cat heads on human bodies that look completely natural and eerily beautiful. She also illustrates other animals like rabbits, bears and frogs and beautiful nature, mostly mushrooms and flowers and they all share a lively quality.
None of these animal characters exist in real life but Higuchi manages to smoothly take you back and forth from her imaginary realm to the real world.
Higuchi has also collaborated with several Japanese fashion brands like UniQlo (UT), Emily Temple Cute (fans of Lolita fashion will know this brand for sure!), ahcahcum, Goblin, Capi, Ima Nunc, Fuca, Holbein and more.
The book also has photographs of her lovely studio… no wonder why she creates these beautiful images if she works in such a cool place!
