Kuroki was born in Kagoshima in 1978 and became a freelance illustrator after graduating from Osaka University of Art’s Design Department.
Partly based on human models and partly based on his imagination, Hiroki’s illustrations are mesmerizing. From erotic females to famous celebrities, every artwork evokes an intimate and melancholic atmosphere.
^^Stunning portrait of a woman, with cat and horse (Image by Hitoshi Kuroki) ^^
My favorite? When he draws animal heads on human bodies or animals parts coming out of the model’s bodies and makes it look completely natural and eerily beautiful.
Kuroki’s illustrations cover a wide range of works from books to CD covers and garments. He has also illustrated for fashion magazines including Commons&Sense, Popeye and GQ.
Check Kuroki’s amazing illustrations in his official website here.

I’d like to thank Tamami Ishikawa, Manager of the Gallery, for introducing me to the artist and helping me with the translation. And special thanks to Hitoshi Kuroki for taking the time to have a great conversation… ありがとうございます!!
